FX Technical Directors
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Solve complex visual effects animation problems, such as, realistic fluids, fire (smoke, etc.), debris, cloth and hair
- Create photo realistic moving images using 3ds Max
- Understand the principal concepts of Voxel and SPH based Fluid simulation and have general experience in procedural FX animation
- Big pluses are experience with thinking particles, Fume FX, particle flow, and/or Havok.
- May include training in Flowline, our Sci-Tech Academy Award winning, proprietary simulation software.
- May have opportunities to mentor Jr. FX TD’s
Education, Experience, and Skills Required
- At least 3-5 years technical direction experience or examples demonstrating equivalent
- Must have completed multiple, complex FX shots on a feature VFX film.
- Education in computer science, mathematics, physics, or engineering preferred but not essential
- Excellent understanding of real world phenomena, composition, physical motion, weight, balance, texture and form
- Thorough knowledge of both 2D and 3D computer graphics techniques
- Thorough understanding of the CG pipeline
- Scripting and shading experience a plus
- Ability to problem solve and predict potential problems with assigned tasks.
- Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to multitask
- Ability to take direction positively, work well within a team and thrive under the pressure of tight deadlines
